MY PHILOSOPHY

My practice embraces diversity and the holistic continuity of the Midwives Model of Care (see below).

I believe that midwives are guardians + keepers of normal, trained to recognize the bounds of health + risk. Rooted in justice, autonomy, equity, and respect, midwifery care can support reproductive and sexual health with compassion and evidence-informed practice. I acknowledge reproduction and childbirth to be a unique, profound, and natural process with a range of cultural meanings, values, and traditions. I offer presence + clear communication in order to provide genuine, compassionate, evidence-informed care for female-bodied, pregnant, or birthing people and their newborns. I believe all people deserve inclusive reproductive + sexual health care that acknowledges + includes their life experiences as a crucial component of their care. All those anticipating a low-risk pregnancy + birth should have the right to access safe community birth with minimized unnecessary interventions, and support for health and wellness through education.

I honor childbirth as a natural, profound process shaped by diverse cultural values, and I advocate for safe, low-intervention community birth for those at low risk. Through education, shared decision-making, and skilled communication, I empower clients to be active participants in their care. I collaborate with the broader healthcare community as needed to ensure the best care for each individual client and situation. When medical care is needed, I facilitate collaboration while doing my best to make sure clients feel informed + supported.

I value education, evidence, and the importance of shared decision-making and strive to continually inform myself and clients about the whole truth surrounding current data available and best care practices in a non-authoritarian manner while acknowledging the client's circumstances, needs, goals, and values as an integral part of their care. I believe each person possesses the best source of knowledge about their own body and is encouraged to build a partnership with their midwife while acknowledging their own active and essential role in their care.

I value and strive to embrace the diversity in every client + within each facet of support for which I have the opportunity to serve based on the continuity of the Midwives Model of Care.
